CHECKING MY LONGBOXES EPISODE #14 – BATMAN IN 80’S

Recently I got me some very nice additions to my comic book collection in the form of five back-issues from DC Comics. Four of these issues where published in 1985 and one in 1986. I originally bought these issues by the time that I was in college, had to sell them and 30 years later I found these copies during a collector’s convention and bought them without giving them a second. The 80’s were a very eventful time for DC Comics. Those years saw the publication of  Crisis on Infinite Earths, Batman: The Dark Knight and Watchmen; all of them titles that changed the landscape of comic books for years to come. But before all that started there was the pre-crisis DC Universe, a place where there was cool characterization, things were taken a bit lighter in terms of angst and darkness and there was even space for a bit of  humor in the bat-books. These comics whose cover scans I am sharing with you are a fine example of this.

Here’s the list, so to speak.

  • Batman #385 (July 1985): script by Doug Moench, pencils by Rick Hoberg & Charles “Chuck” Patton, inked by Alfredo Alcala, colored by Adrienne Roy, lettered by John Costanza and edited by Len Wein.
