I couldn’t sleep last night so I finished watching all the remaining episodes left for me to see of the new TV series on Netflix, Daredevil. I’m happy to announce that I am most pleased with all 13 episodes of this first season. This is the most faithful adaptation of the character and his world (so far). If you are a long time comic book reader like me you will recognize that they have taken the best parts of stories by Stan Lee, Bill Everett, Frank Miller, Gene Colan, Dennis O’Neil, Kevin Smith, Joe Quesada, Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker to name a few and fused them into a cohesive whole where everything works marvelously and all the things that we love from the four color world are there. The grim and gritty streets of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen are there, the fast-paced knuckle-crunching fights are, the moral conflicts of our characters are there. Bottom line, everything that is good and works in the comics is in this TV show and it works too. Everything that is good and works in the comics but doesn’t translate well on the televised media has been adjusted so that it works. The relationship between Wilson Fisk and Vanessa (his love interest) is one of the best examples of this.
Should you decide to give this show a try you will be treated to very intense, very dynamic crime drama that will leave you wanting more at the end of each episode. The acting was superb, the action sequences were intense and the story grabs you in way that won’t let you go until you see it thru.
Watch this series.
